My ridge mortar is cracked. Is that definitely causing a leak?
Cracked ridge mortar creates a direct water entry path every time it rains. It may not always produce a visible ceiling stain immediately (water can track along a rafter before dripping), but it will eventually cause internal water damage if not addressed.
What does flexible polymer mortar actually mean?
Polymer modified mortars contain acrylic or other polymer additives that give the cured mortar a degree of elongation before it cracks. Standard cement mortar has almost no elongation. On a tiled roof in Bendigo's climate, this difference is what determines how long the pointing survives before cracking again.
Can you repoint just a few caps rather than the whole ridge?
Yes. We quote what actually needs doing. If half the ridge caps are sound and only the other half have failed pointing, we quote only the failed sections. We do not quote the whole ridge when part of it doesn't need work.
How do I know if my ridge needs rebedding or just repointing?

Is repointing included in a full roof restoration?
Yes. Ridge and hip repointing is a core component of every full roof restoration we carry out. It cannot sensibly be omitted from a restoration. Addressing the coating without addressing the mortar would leave the most common leak point unresolved.
